Two years of calendar entries/notes have vanished from my friend's
Anytime Delux. Is there a deleted items folder or an automatic
archive where the data may be hiding???

I'm using vista and don't have much problem on it.
I suggest that your friend has to create a folder on her desktop and name it
as "download".
Save it there when she download file for the first time, and the machine
will remember it the next time she will do any downloading.

As standard, downloads will be stored in the following folder: From the root of
the C drive, in the folder Users, next the Username, and then Downloads.

It's possible that some names are identified in Word as being French,
and JAWS is automatically switching to a French synthesiser to read
them. To stop JAWS doing this, press Insert + V and go to Language
Detect Change which is under Reading Options. On my PC I can press L
