Mike, To successfully save a new file as normal.dot, (with Word closed) find and delete the old normal.dot. Microsoft wod will automatically replace it when you reopen the program. Then make your settings changes and save as you have been doing. The following is subject to be verified:- Note,

Hello Mike, I do not have a system with Word 2002 on it, but here are a few thoughts. When you save the file just use the name "normal" (without the quotes of course, but also without the period and D O T). Use tab key to the files of type and press enter key on the choice for document templates
