May I ask you where you found the control shift g = group/category?
I like finding out where these are.

to create a group/category,
1, navigate to your contacts;
2, ctrl+shift+g=new category,
your in a edit field,
so type the name of group,
now, tab to save button.

when I try to get to the contacts by f6 and finding mail and selecting
contacts
I then go to the list and did what was described from above but my
application key gives me:
delete, send but no copy sub menu?
How do you form a group first?
I have Jaws 11 and Jaws 12 with windows 7

I'm assuming your wanting to add contacts to your newly created
group/category,
1, navigate to the contacts;
2, now, arrow to a particular contact which you wish to add to the
group/category,
press applications key, up arrow you should hear,
copy contact sub menu,
right arrow to open, you should see your group name their, press enter.
you now have one contact added to your group/category.
