I think there might be a bookmarking function in Word, but don't ask me

I have a very non-technical solution. When I want a mark a document so I
can return to it later, I simply put
There's a short way to place a bookmark. I press ctrl.+shift+f5 and follow
the instructions that Denny Huff gave you. You can use the same shortcut to
search through your bookmarks, instead of pressing ctrl+g and go to
bookmarks. This key combination works in word 2003.

I just type in the word: bookmark, and then when I reopen the document, I
use the find option with ctrl f.
