While function keys are under discussion, I'll mention that the new laptop
which I'm
using at work has the function keys configured by default to operate in the
normal manner. If you want laptop-specific commands to be issued, you need to
hold down the FN key.

A sighted person who has this device has confirmed that you'll indeed
have to go into bios settings to change this.
Once done, the function keys should be normal.
