You might want to update to 5.10 and go from there.
Secondly, in your configuration manager, open the default configuration
file, then go to the settings menu, followed by entering on verbosity.
In that dialog box, make sure that intermediate is selected, instead of
beginner.

I am trying to change my settings or whatever they are in my outlook express.
It used to say, unread before an unread message, now it says unread message. I
want to get rid of the word message. It also gives me other info that I don't
