Jbase 3.x is a 32 bit system and will not install on Win 7 64b. You can
put a 32b version of windows 7 on a 64b platform though.

Does this mean that 3.4.10 will not install on windows 10 either, or is there a
setting that could fool it into thinking that it is being installed on a 32 bit
system ?

Zumasys actually has an install for 3.4 for Windows 64-bit.

The version that Alan is alluding to is a new build of jBASE 3.4.10 which is 64
bit aware and will install correctly on a 64 bit Windows platform.

Richard,
The new build of jBASE 3.4.10 is still 32 bit, but it is 64bit aware, so will
install correctly on a 64 bit system, which was not the case with the original
version.

So bottomline, I can have a Win 7 64b system, run Jbase 3.4.10 and it
will work. Why go to 5,x then?

Richard,
jBASE 3.4.10 is still technology from 2005 and no new development has taken
place since then.
The new build is meant for customers who have a valid reason to stick with
jBASE 3.4.x at the present time and gives them access to newer, supported
Windows operating systems.
jBASE 5
Mike,
So you are saying I did not have to go to 5.x? I was told if I wanted 64
bit I had no choice.

Remember, it is still 32 bit limited, even though it will run on a 64 bit
machine. File and index sizes limits are still the same.

So if I have a client that is on 3.x and wants to get a new system and
for some reason does not want to upgrade to 5.x he does not need to.
Correct?
Granted anyone new and anyone who wants to take advantage of the new 5.x
features should go to 5,x anyway.

Richard,
Unless there is a valid reason for a specific customer to stick with jBASE
3.4.x, then they should be encouraged to move with the times and upgrade to
jBASE 5.
Why would you want to upgrade to the latest and greatest Windows version and
then run 10+ year old jBASE software on it,
