Sorry for digging up this old thread, but I have the same problem and can't
seem to solve it.
I have annotated the exception base class thrown by my WebMethods with
@XmlSeeAlso to refer to the subtype exceptions, but it doesn't seem to have any
effect and still in the client a SOAPFaultExceptio
The DistributedReplicantManager is unrelated to web session clustering, so
that's likely not the issue.
Do you have UseJK="true" in the
jboss-web-cluster.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml file on all members?
If yes, what you report is odd for sure.

I do not know what you mean, especially since port 1099 is used for JNDI (and
not for HTTP access), so I am not seeing how that comes into play. Please post
the stack trace of the exception. Also, which JDK are you using, and what OS?

As far as I can tell, there is no parameter to turn off the decoration of mime
type text/html.
What would be the best process to allow for the addition of a "decorate=false"
paramter to be sent to the content portlet in order to have text/html rendered
without the extra page decoration/theme.

That's a great article and highlights how nested conversations should be used.
Seam needs more of these kinds of articles that illustrate how things should be
used, rather than everyone (including myself) trying to shoehorn their ideas
into Seam based on how they THINK it should work.

Yes, I figured as much (I looked at that source code as well) but I wasn't
quite sure what was wrong in my service definition:

JBoss AS 4.0.5 does not come with EJB3 support, unless you install it using the
JEMS installer. But then there is a warning in the portal docs not to use the
JEMS installer with 4.0.5 because the portal has issues with it.
I think your best bet is to go with JBoss AS 4.2.1 or 4.2.2.
