I successfuly deployed and tested JPA (POJO) example on WAS 6.1.0.3.
Just follow the steps in Readme file of JPA example.
Still if problem exists then PM me, i'll send you complete war file that worked
successfully on WAS.

Under the same circumstance (original post), i achieved expected result by
using Hibernate's @version annotation.
