I implemented the table state and it works perfectly for me.
I am using the latest GA version of rich faces. Maybe updating to the latest
version will resolve the problem for you too.
Let me know if you need me to post my code, but its pretty much the same as
what you have written here

I am wondering if there's some way to persist and restore the current state of
a rich extendeddatatable.
For example, if I remove a column from the table on the UI after it loads, is
there some way I can save this state so that the next time I load the page it
doesnt show the column I rem
