We don't want to use RMI. So any way to force JBOSS to bypass these checks?

I am using JBOSS-4.0.5GA on Linux box. The issue is, JBOSS starts properly only
when there is either a DNS entry for the host or an entry for the host is
present in the /etc/hosts file. Otherwise it throws UnknownHostException.
Is there a way to bypass these checks and start JBOSS?. What is it
