Okay got this fixed. It seems the server was set up incorrectly and could not
resolve "localhost" ... Sorry i can't find those log entries as I fixed the
problem before reading your post..

Could you please search your log for additional
org.jboss.remoting.transport.PortUtil debugging output? I am specifically
interested in this one:
log.debug("port " + p + " already in use. Will try another.");
