I was just wondering if that worked for you.
I would like to put together a prototype and adding Google maps would be a nice
enhancement.
What did you do to make it work? Was there anything unique about the code? I'd
like to avoid simply putting it in an iframe portlet.

set the caching time to infinit (-1). That way the content should be cached
after the first render until the portlet receives a render or action request
that is directly targeted at the instance (in theory at least ;)
