Have you tried using the most recent version of tomahawk (like 1.1.5-SNAPSHOT)? Remember that JBoss Portal and JBoss AS both have several version of MyFaces+Tomahawk lying in several subdirectories of server/.../deploy which you need to delete in order to have the new version up and running.
