I don't see any errors in the log snippet you provided. Moreover, everything
looks alright. The 'no JNDI name configured' message is just an INFO message
from Hibernate, nothing to worry about.
What happens if you access http://localhost:8080/jbpm-console?

or popped up the admin window or...something! FYI: I can bring up the admin

designer cannot be started from the console. I suggest you read a little more
documentation (also the getting started) and get back with more questions after
that.

I get the exact same error. It acts like it's starting...then just stops cold.

with JNDI to know how to resolve this. Any advice would be greatly

This is not an error. It is just a message saying that you didn't provide a
JNDI name to bind on. If you don't provide this name, Hibernate will still
work fine.
If you really need to put the thing in the JNDI, read this:
