I tried to create my own portlet using helloworld.war in a way given by Nebel. I put the helloworld.war file in deploy folder and also put the helloworld-portal.xml file in the directory deploy/. I got the error "not found" even placing helloworld-pages.xml file in hellowworld/WEB-INF.
