Try to browse thru the Getting started book a few times and then get back to

We've seen this kind of behavior in the past when using mod_jk2. The reason is
still not well identified but it is definitely not a problem caused by JBoss AS.
That's why we recommend using mod_jk1.2 instead as explained in this wiki page

I fixed the wiki page.
Keep in mind that we strongly recommend using mod_jk1.2 instead

we see people having severe performance and reliability issues using mod_jk2
almost every week. Avoid it, it stinks.
The mod_jk section of the Tomcat website is a mess. We know, it's confusing.

How come you're new to JBoss and you're using 3.0.8?? ;)
Use either JBoss AS 3.2.6 or 4.0. If you really want to use SDK 1.5, you should
go for 4.0.
Get the JBoss Guide "Getting started" guide and follow the instructions.

sorry I misread your first post.
Yes, you can just touch the jar.
$ touch myapp.jar
This will change the timestamp to the current time.
What I was suggesting earlier applies if you deploy an exploded archive.

if you download 3.2.5, there is a service Tomcat41 ready to deploy into
/docs/examples/tomcat
It no longer exists in 3.2.6 but it should be working just fine. Give it a try.

you should not put anything under /clients.
if you've got third-party packages such as a jdbc driver, put it in /server/xxx/lib.
Your application should go under /deploy as a jar, ear, war, etc...

That's correct. 3.2.6 introduced some issues with JDK1.3 that are being addressed as
we speak.
The upcoming 3.2.7 will fix it.
In the midtime, you may want to use release 3.2.5.

Archives located under /deploy are deployed under /tmp/deploy.
However folder names are created using random values so you can not use them
programmatically.
What you could do is using exploded archives.
