OK, Problem solved
I used the old Java version 1.4.x
even though java 1.5 was installed, it wasn't used because the symbolic links
weren't updated
with sun sdk 1.5 both jBoss IDE and Plugin version 3.09 are working fine

the actuel 3.1.1
i downloaded it yesterday
under ubuntu 5.10 in my laptop it worked
under ubuntu 6.06 dapper drake it didnt (but this is my working pc :/ )
now i'm testing under windows XP

ok, so i tried 3.0.9 from the single download, and now it works (win xp)
i will try under ubuntu 6.06 later
maybe the starter package should be updated so that the version 3.0.9 coms
along with it :)
