there is the JMX book my Marc Fleury, which is available in print
and as for pay doc. Last time that I looked at it (over a year ago),
it seemed pretty good to me.
(Should get my boss into buying a copy ..)

Not sure I get the whole MBean concept all that well yet, and I just
haven't had that good of luck finding examples.
