Do you have the field in the jabber.xml (jabberd config file) to
the name of the nat box? If I remember correctly, server will reject
logon attempts due to "invalid server specified" or similar if the name
isn't listed.
Might want to check up on that.

here's part of my iptables script. i can telnet to
the firewall machine from outside on port 5223 and get
connected. This looks just like the bits i have for
forwarding sendmail and pop3 requests in thru the
firewall to an internal machine...don't know why this
doesn't seem to work right.

I've setup jabber 1.4.1 on an internal box on
our network and have opened 5223 on our firewall
and dnat'd it to the machine running jabber.
However, i can't seem to connect from outside
through the firewall to jabber's ssl port...the
jim client just gives its standard error message.

Ah!
I finally got it working! You know what the problem was? Apparently the
algorithm was fine, but your answer took out one issue that I didn't have
to worry about... However, it triggered another issue that I never thought
about...

The results used from all of the SHA1 hashes is the lower case hex string. I'll be
sure this is mentioned when I combine the zero-k auth and reg drafts into a JEP.

Actually, let me take my previous email back.. Both Jabber and Java use
SHA1. So now here's my question:
I also looked at Gabber's code and I can understand most of it (other than
the most important parts).. mainly,

From what I understand, Java uses SHA1 for encryption. This could
possibly be the problem.
But if Jabber is using SHA and not SHA1, then I would suggest that Jabber
be upgraded to using SHA1. There is an unpublished flaw in SHA that makes
it vulnerable. SHA1 should be more secure..

I intend on adding agent probing here shortly when I move from the PHP
probe script to Python (using jabberpy) as the lib adds more features.
I can already probe all servers listed in ~40 seconds with Python
(that's without threads), where as PHP was taking ~9 minutes.

Dear Jabber people,
I am organising a Linux and Open Source track for next year's UK
Association of C and C++ Users Group, and I was wondering if any UK or
European based developer would like to give a talk about Jabber at it? The
spring 2002 conference will be held in Oxford, England 4-6th April
Hello, all. Please note this is cross-posted between the Jabber and
