I had this exact same issue with 1.501, caused by low disk space.
Restarting Jenkins after freeing up disk space did not resolve the issue - builds still failed with this same error.
To fix it, I stopped Jenkins, deleted all Jenkins owned files in /tmp and then rebooted the box for good measure.
