We've been hitting this issue in version 1.7.2 on Jenkins 1.510:
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-17475
The problem is I'm not getting full backups but I don't have a schedule for differential backups, I only want full backups. I would run Backup Now but then I don't know if it's backing up because there is no progress job or log in the Jenkins UI. If the backup is failing, I'd like to know from the UI rather than have to look in the Jenkins jobs on the system.
