* when AD is on, jffnms constantly "discovers" the interface to check
for new services, resulting in the observed name changes
* when I switch AD off, no name changes are detected (as they aren't
checked any more), but the polling for data still continues?

Sure, just set the AD policy on that host to Automagic, let it change whatever
it feel it has, and if you then don't want to have that enabled, turn it off.
Thats just an administrative information telling you that interface changed its
name.

This host is using autodiscovery for switches, running against the IP
of the switch portion of the 6500. I've included a few of the log
entries below, however the entire output is quite large and it's a
little difficult to tell what should be included. If there's a
way to run autodiscovery again
