You can add that option to the user profile.
'admin' is just like any other user, it just has more privileges assigned to it
in the profile.

There's also the Default View Type, which could be Normal, DHTML, Text, etc
The Profile Options screen lists all the possible per-user profile options.

Maybe you have some hosts or interfaces hidden (Don't show) the start page
alarms does not hide them, its a bug.

You can edit the start.php file and change the news URL to something else.
Or change the default view to other, so it will start in Alarmed
Interfaces for instance.
Or disable the stats completely from the Profile option ('Show Stats in
start page')
