Does Jmeter support PUT request with some content

where to use $__split

I am extracting some stuff with a regex and using a foreach loop, but need to $__split the regex match into various things for my sampler. Where is the appropriate place to execute a function so I can access my splitVAR_n's? I feel like I'm missing something very easy like "Function Processor". T
