I don't think there is any problem with regex however,I am newbie in jmeter
and probably the location where i place the regex extractor is not right

I am facing similar problems with session id and iam in same boat but
boarded the boat earlier than you i guess.
Have you recorded the script in bad boy initially.
If not record your script in badboy and export to jmeter.
