You could also try changing the port being used. It's possible 8080 is in use already
on your
machine.

You could just use BadBoy to capture a whole session and then export the
JMeter Test Plan. Then use that test plan as a base to work from. Worked
for me, I haven't needed to touch JMeters' recording facility yet.
