Thanks for the reply. I tried out the command svn cleanup. But it didn’t help.
Also can I know what might be the reason for such an error?

I was able to successfully setup when I used the GitHub repo i.e git clone
git://github.com/openstreetmap/josm.git
But still facing problem in doing it the other way.
