"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." Our thoughts play a great role in the level of peace in our lives. When our minds are occupied with negative, nagging, and unproductive thoughts, we push peace away and invite anxiety and worry into our lives. Therefore, we must learn to recognize and replace negative thought patterns before they rob us of peace. There are seven categories of thoughts that steal peace from us–sinful, negative, erroneous, unrealistic, rebellious, obsessive, and enslaved thoughts. Each category represents a different area in which Satan aims to establish a stronghold in our minds. Whether you are plagued by one or several of these types of thoughts, it is important to properly extinguish the flames of their fiery path through your mind. Until they are put down, you will be unable to experience God’s gift of peace. When these thoughts surface, first reach out to God in prayer. Confess that you are struggling with troublesome thoughts and ask Him to remove your burden. Then, turn your mind’s energy to that which is positive, uplifting, and of God. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to think on "whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy."
