Hello, my Fellow Joynetters. It's been quite awhile since I've written to JoyNet. Life has been too hectic to sit down and do email. But, I've finally caught up with emails and whatnot, so here I am writing again to you.
In the past couple months, I have been attending a Bible Study which a couple friends of mine have started. This gathering has opened a whole different way of looking at the Bible for me. We were studying Genesis 3 for the past couple weeks, and we realized a mind-boggling amount just from that one chapter of the Bible. Read Genesis 3:1-7 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=Genesis+3%3A+1-7&language=english&version=NIV-IBS). If you notice, their eyes were not open until Adam ate of the fruit. Nothing happened after Eve ate it. What does that tell you? Let's go back a little. During the dialogue between Eve and the Snake, where was Adam? At the end of verse 6, it says he was with her. He was standing next to her throughout the discussion, yet he did not say a thing. Nothing was stopping him from keeping his wife from eating of the fruit. After she ate the fruit, she was not hit with realization that she did wrong. She offered the fruit to her husband. He could easily have rejected the food. What would have happened then? God would have come, known that Eve had sinned and would given some kind of punishment. At that time, Adam could have been Eve's Savior and given his life for Eve- ask God to punish him for Eve's sin instead of punishing her. But he did not do that. He ate of the fruit. It is only after eating the fruit were their eyes opened. In verses 8-12 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=Genesis+3%3A+8-12&language=english&version=NIV-IBS), when God does come, Adam blames his wife for making him eat. (Very Un-Savior like, isn't it?) Now, how does that explain why Christ had to suffer? Well, it's just a partial explanation, but an explanation all the same. Had Adam offered himself for Eve, Christ would not have had to come to the world. Christ is the 2nd Adam; Adam was God's first Son, but when he couldn't go without displeasing God, God realized that He'll have to send Christ to show the world by example how He wants us to live. Christ became our Savior by offering himself for all sins comitted since the beginning of time. That's just one reason behind the suffering of Christ. It also shows that God knows first-hand the worse type of suffering man can go through in flesh. By having God come down in flesh through his Son, we have an easier time relating to Him; He's not some untouchable entity that we cannot relate to. The Passion is also an example of how much suffering God will go through for His Children. Just through the Passion, God shows various relationships He shares with us: Savior, Father, Fellow-human, just to mention a few. That's putting my thoughts in a big nutshell.
