Why this doesn't work in IE?

    $("#nav > ul > li > a").hover(function () {
                $(this).animate({ 
                        marginTop: "-3px",
                
                }, 200 );    
        },function(){
                $(this).animate({ 
                        marginTop: "0",
                
                }, 200 );    
        });
