To execute javascript code returned by the server you need to use the
javascript eval function on the string of script returned from the
server. As far as I know changing the content of a div to a javascript
block won't cause that javascript code to execute.

I heard something about a listen plugin for jQuery that might help.
Somebody said that sometimes after you update the DOM it needs to be
refreshed and listen does that.
Also I had problems importing stuff myself but I tracked it down to me
injecting XML into an HTML document and trying to read it

I'm making a website that has a drill-down form in it where you can
select an office from a dropdown and then an agent from that
particular office. My problem is once the user views an agent and
clicks the back button on the browser my page breaks. I need to retain
