got it to work
 had to move
      $(function() {
                $("#pro_edit_profile").dialog({
                        bgiframe: true,
                        autoOpen: false,
                        modal: true,
                        buttons: {
                                Cancel: function() {
                                        $(this).dialog('close');
                                }
                        }
                });
        });
outside of the .click statement ;)
