It seems that after a jQuery clone(), the value of select boxes are lost in IE (but not Firefox). Try this out: <div> <select> <option value="0">one</option> <option value="1" selected='selected'>two</option> </select> </div> $(function(){ $('div').clone(true).appendTo('body'); }); The first option will be selected in the cloned select.
