As a newbie, I am always appreciative of recommended resources. And
this one time, I get to return the favor by highly recommending
"jQuery In Action" from Manning press by Bear Bibeault and Yehuda
Katz. It is very well written and well organized. The examples are
accurate and complete. Given I have had no javascript experience and,
by extension, no jQuery experience, I found this book to be a great
intro to both subjects. An appendix on the key javascript features
combined with another book I highly recommend ("Learning Javascript"
from O'Rielly press) has given me the jump start I needed. Add to
that, lurking here and learning from all the posts, and I am very
excited to be entering the wide wonderful world of web programming.
