[jQuery] remove radio buttom

I'm trying to remove radio buttons under a specific circumstance, but
I'm not having much luck.

Here are the appropriate snippets:

alert("testing");  // just to ensure we are here
$("div.gloves_wear").empty();

...

        <tr><td align="center"><b>Gloves Worn</b></td></tr>

        <input type="radio" name="gloves" value="0"  />None (no bonus)<br />

gloves (+1 Strength)<br />
        </div></td></tr>
</table>



I get the alert, but it doesn't appear that the empty ever occurs.  I
get no errors in the javascript console, so I'm sure I'm just
referencing it incorrectly or something.

Any help is appreciated.
