I think it will be similar to Adobe AIR, that let's you to code a 'RIA'
(just a website with JS inside a sandbox based on webkit)... or not...
The key of that is that MS maybe will do an aproach to an Online OS, or
a website operated OS, or a similar idea, like chromeOS.

My guess is that this new HTML-based framework was created so that
Microsoft could compete with ChromeOS on tablets and netbooks. They
are obviously trying to appeal to the same developers that are
currently writing Chrome apps.
This is a great news for us because another huge market for HTML/JS

I'm afraid that all this HTML5 and native APIs support will be limited in
Windows 8, pretty much like in IE9. Just a cool thing to show off but the
actual experience is very far from being seamless. I've lost the faith in

No, but you're right. It's probably not going to be as easy as writing
js in the browser. Although that also kind of depends on how
The graphical shell of the latest version of Gnome is also written in
JavaScript. Still the entry level for average JS coder to become Gnome
developer is pretty steep because desktop APIs differ a lot from what
we use on the web.
I think this will also be the case on Windows 8 if they really mean
