I just about had a heart attack. I had evidently left up a huge dedicated
instance in a region I don't normally use. Luckily, after calling Amazon,
they were nice enough to waive the fee since it was my first time making

Wow, I totally didn't realize you needed one per region. Wish the support
guy had mentioned it when I said I was setting them up. What a pain in the
butt. What is with Amazon and not letting you do monitoring across
regions?

Which was sort of the whole point, right? If you had started the instance
in your normal region, you would have seen it and stopped it.

Sorry, what I mean is, the billing alerts are only settable in one region,
but I think they apply to the bill from all regions (you only get one bill)
At least I hope it works that way. I can test it out tomorrow and make an
alert in US east and see if something in US west triggers it.
