Hi,
While playing with SkyJUMP and pdf printing which does not work with Add
datastore layer I soon realised that I would like to see a "Use view extents as
BBOX filter" check box in the Run datastore query panel.

Yes, OpenJump's Datastore interface and family only ask to the data
plugin only data inside the viewable bounding box for a layer obtained
through "Add Datastore".
Also there's a cache mechanism built inside OpenJump, but I never
investigated on how it exactly works.
On the contrary Datastore l
Yes, that's the way it works. Run Datastore Query executes the query
immediately and creates a fully materialized layer for the results. Add
Datastore Layer creates a dynamic layer backed by a connection to the
database, and only loads the data which is visible in the current

Hi,
I believe that PostGIS "Add datastore" layer is somehow dynamic and takes the
bounding box into account when sending queries. Having Use cache box checked,
as it was in my case, obviously makes JUMP to cache all or part of the
previously fetched features. Martin Davis is perhaps the one wh
Is this evidence that Stefan's caching theory is correct? Does "Run
datastore query" load into memory immediately and "Add datastore layer"
somehow defer the load?
By the way, PostGIS datastores do result in an object type of Layer, so it
is being processed as vectors.
I guess what is needed is
