Just to clarify, I don't think this is a problem with OJ. I think it has to
do with how Swing is painting the font glyphs.

very well. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge of font glyphs and
typography needed to fix the problem. I suspect a workaround exists with
the right font-creation technique.
