Because it is using / (root) partition instead of /var partition.
You may have to download the file to /var directory somewhere.
Also, because you are upgrading from JUNOS 4.x to 7.x, you have to
consider several options.
If you want to keep the configuration, you can not upgrade to 7.x

I disabled RSVP on the interface facing the m20 and it works now . why would
that affect ldp operations?

Chris,
Chris,
Was this output from the M20 or M5? a "show configuration protocols ldp"
from both routers will help also.
I do get the routes in the ldp database and to Reply to Sergio's email:

Juan,
A couple of things jump out at me. First the size of
your internal flash is quite small and that's what's
going to be used (not the HDD) for the upgrade
process. Second you're trying to upgrade from 4.x to
7.x using a jbundle (this will not work). You should
use a jinstall image when going b

Juan,
It appears the router is trying to save the file in the root partition,
although its not immediately obvious why.
On a (somewhat) unrelated note, I believe you'll want to use the jinstall
file (rather than jbundle) when upgrading from 4.0R1 to 7.0R2.

802.3ah OAM functionality is present in JunOS 8.2 on the M320, MX960 and
T-series routers. See

Then the client itself surely should detect this and fail over to backup
link. Using FREEK/BFD/IP SLA, the Remote CE should also detect that primary
path failed and do the same. Not sure how the protect-interface would
The reason is...If client lastmile goesdownit will effect only DLCI flag
to DWONbut its FR-CCC flag never downand if FR-CCC didnt down...it
will never let L2circuit to go down!
