I wonder what was wrong with my tests the first time (on 8.2R1)
because none of these worked (didn't return anything), but now they
do. I could have sworn that I tested those exactly as written.

I have fundamental question about Nat and how to setup with a P-AS.
I have the following setup
ge-0/2/0.10 (10.1.2.189)---M20--ge-0/1/0.8 (172.31.17.254)
I need to make some NAT from ge-0/1/0.8 when unicast connection is done
on 172.31.17.0/24 to any machines.
