My K-9 account keeps saying "syncing disabled" even though it's set up to
check every 15 minutes, it won't unless I do it manually

All of the emails in this account are pulled into Outlook every even
I am using start in Unified Inbox option too, but I don't have this
problem. I can see all the messages read (greyed) and unread also. Maybe it
is a specific problem with this phone and/or Android version. I can confirm
just that with Samsung Note 3, six IMAP accounts, K-9 Mail version 5.208
