Thank you all (especially Cape Codder (been so long since I've been on the Cape) for the thread. I couldn't get the normal icon to badge, but using the widget as my email icon in the tray gives me badging and the ability to hop to my unified inbox in one tap. (Just deleted the dog icon and put the envelope icon from the widget in its place.)
