You need to whitelist K9 to prevent it from "dozing." This link will walk you through it. I also added a couple of other apps (Facebook, the Score, etc.) so I would get their notifications as well. http://www.valuewalk.com/2015/11/how-to-stop-apps-from-using-doze-on-android-6-0-marshmallow/
