logging with log4j. But there is the java.util.logging interface that
you can use, though it lacks a few handlers for log output already
available in log4j appenders.

Classpath's libraries can in fact
read the serialized forms is also not too difficult. I might should
spend time making it easy to run as a suite of tests.
