I think it's more than just Dolphin actually. Open/Save dialogs (Kdialog it's
called?) also generate a crash. See Kate's crash backtrace attached after I
opened it and press Shift+S to trigger "Save As".

This has been reported before. The only think Konsole could do is disable
saving the scrollback if it is being written to disk. In general if you run
out of disk space, the OS is going to have issues.
