24fps now works, thanks JB! However, tested with 23.98fps just for the heck of
it, and it also gets both issues mentioned in the original post.

Oh fascinating. Setting the Project and preview settings to 1080p at 25fps

UPDATE: When I add a clip into the Project Bin, the icons appear in the
timeline tracks, even at the smaller scale. However, the icons themselves are
