I can't see anything in the standard that defines overlap.
The difference between str(n)cat and functions like memcpy/memmove is that one
character gets lost in the process - one of the terminating nulls.

Does this occur when you don't strip the binary?
The FreeBSD mold package is marked as broken due to an issue with strip (though

Yes, I probably copied DELETE from DELETE_SIZED and didn’t remove all the sized
bits.
On 64bit the rags are passed in registers so less likely to be uninitialized.

As a workaround:
export LD_PRELOAD=/lib64/libpthread.so.0
(or whatever is appropriate for your platform).
The problem is that the tools do not link with libpthread but they assume that
