Oh hmm. Should have mentioned I'm using pipewire implementation of pulseaudio.
Maybe that's the issue? Will check with the native pulseaudio sometime.

Ah that could be it. /tmp on Archlinux is mounted as tmpfs, so loses everything
after a restart.

Yes, that is what I found as well. Fiddling with the settings removes the entry
when I set the option to ON. Manually setting the entry to "true" in the config
